'Toto Wolff wants to succeed Domenicali as Formula 1 CEO'

The year 2023 did not go the way Toto Wolff had hoped: with his Mercedes team, the team boss remained without a Grand Prix victory, and there was the (eventually nullified) dispute around alleged conflicts of interest. By 2024, things should be a lot better. Mercedes hopes to build a car capable of competing with Red Bull Racing, and there may also be something good in store for Wolff personally. At least, that is what Spanish F1 journalist Pedro Fermin Flores suspects in his podcast.

He claims that Wolff wants to succeed Stefano Domenicali as CEO of Formula 1. According to Fermin Flores, the Austrian initially planned to take it easy as he was tired of travelling a lot. But in the meantime, Wolff is said to have decided he wants to make a bid for the most important position in Formula One management.

It may sound strange, as Toto Wolff is not everybody's friend - and surely he should be supported by all teams in his possible bid. But the Spanish journalist does not find it strange that Wolff wants to become Wolff's CEO and eventually will: "Why would Toto not succeed? Crazier things have happened in life."

Fermin Flores would not reveal who his sources are. He says that he was told recently that Wolff wants to make a bid for the position. With this knowledge, he says things that Fermin Flores saw happening last season are falling into place. What exactly all that is remains unclear.
