Toto Wolff addressed whether Mercedes would be able to match Ferrari's superb race starts in China.
"[It's] maybe easier to have a better start and then you compromise in other parts of the track or the race."

Both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton rocketed off the line during the Australian Grand Prix. The Monegasque driver also took the lead from George Russell, and the two had a hard-fought battle for first place during multiple laps.
Mercedes ultimately managed to claim a one-two finish in Melbourne. Addressing their biggest rival's strength, Wolff explained to GPblog: "I'm not sure, I think it's down to a certain configuration of hardware in the engine, turbo size, that allows you to spin the turbo. [It's] maybe easier to have a better start and then you compromise in other parts of the track or the race.

"So we haven't changed anything for the starts. I was happy that we actually got going even though the battery wasn't full on either car."

Wolff hoped there would be no serious incidents

The Austrian CEO and team boss continued: "When you look at the pre-start with the engine revving, you're thinking, ‘What the hell?’ I hope everybody is able to leave his starting position without carnage. I think it was pretty good already for a first."
That there were no incidents was largely thanks to Franco Colapinto's reflexes as well, after the Argentinian driver managed to avoid Liam Lawson's Racing Bulls.
