Wolff tells of Hamilton's past: "He was insulted at the go-kart track"

Lewis Hamilton was very successful in Formula 1 with seven world titles for the time being. Toto Wolff emphasized in conversation with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung that the Briton, however, had to fight hard to reach motorsport.

According to the Mercedes team boss, it is not for nothing that Hamilton has called a lot of attention to racism in the world in recent years. Hamilton also faced insults at a young age because of his skin color and therefore feels a responsibility to get that behavior out of the world.

"As a child, he was insulted at the go-kart track. White parents forbade their children to deal with him. That definitely left big scars on him," says Wolff, who notes that Hamilton still draws a lot of strength from that period. "When you come from an emotional Siberia, it's beautiful everywhere in the world."

Racism did not stop Hamilton from reaching the top in Formula 1. No fewer than seven times he managed to be the best in the world, equaling record holder Michael Schumacher. Last season in Abu Dhabi he hoped to take over the record, but Max Verstappen thwarted him. Hamilton has a contract that will see him in Formula 1 in 2022 and 2023, though the Brit has been quiet since Abu Dhabi.
