In a new documentary from Sky Sports Toto Wolff is back talking about the season finale in Abu Dhabi. The Mercedes team boss states that Michael Masi was turned by Jonathan Wheatley.

Bromance turned Masi

Although Mercedes and Red Bull Racing both like to look forward, there are still many documentaries looking back at the final Grand Prix of 2021. Wolff speaks to the Sky Sports camera about the final, revealing that he saw a big role in the title fight for Red Bull's team manager Jonathan Wheatley, who Wolff says had a ''bromance'' with Masi.
''Jonathan Wheatley has done his job. He's turned Michael Masi the race director, not only in Abu Dhabi but before, and probably Max owes him a lot,'' says the Austrian who also states that he has not spoken to Masi and has no desire to do so at all.

''His decisions were wrong and I'm sure that he regrets them. The FIA should have seen much earlier that there was a problem. There was a problem with the structure. There was a problem of personalities,'' Wolff states.
Wolff is extremely bummed about the loss, but also feels sorry for Max Verstappen. ''I feel for Max. He merits the world championship... but there's only talk about Abu Dhabi'', concludes the 50-year-old top executive.
