Toto Wolff believes that all of the bad luck Mercedes has experienced during the 2018 season thus far came back in the form of good fortune as Mercedes scored a one-two finish on home soil having looked more than unlikely when the lights went out for the German Grand Prix.
Speaking after the race to Sky Sports, Wolff exclaimed that the luck, or lack thereof, his team had experiences to this point finally came back in reverse fortune, with Lewis Hamilton scoring a vital win.
"All the bad luck that we had came back to us in tremendous good luck and that makes me happy," says Mercedes boss Toto Wolff.
"We didn't have the quickest car here and we just need to progress for the next races. It was still raining at the time (they gave Bottas team orders) and the fight was so intense - it was all to lose with the bad luck we have had in the last few races.
"We wanted to keep it calm at that stage."
The result means that Mercedes regain the lead in the constructor standings whilst Hamilton retakes the lead in the driver standings after Sebastian Vettel crashed out in the rain.
In a battle that seems destined to go on to the very last round, Mercedes snatched back the upper hand as Formula One heads towards the final race before the summer break at Budapest.
