With the introduction of new regulations in 2026, there is much speculation about a possible switch from Max Verstappen to Mercedes and Aston Martin next season. Formula 1 analyst and former team manager Peter Windsor has shared his view on how likely such a move is.
Aston Martin would be more than happy to welcome Max Verstappen if he decides to leave Red Bull Racing. Earlier this week GPblog reported that the Dutch camp has less confidence in the Aston Martin team than in the more highly-rated Mercedes. Windsor addresses the rumors in a Q&A on his own YouTube channel and believes that Verstappen would actually be better off with Lawrence Stroll's team.
"Well, he'd move there because they won't be dead last in 26. They're going to have Adrian Newey's car there. He's Adrian left Red Bull who was the architect, and Adrian the architect of a lot of Max's success at Red Bull, virtually all of his success actually, is now at Aston Martin, who are spending a fortune and have great facilities."

Windsor does not believe Verstappen will leave Red Bull

Nonetheless, Windsor emphasizes that a move to Aston Martin is far from a done deal. "I'm of the opinion that it would be pointless him leaving Red Bull until he knows what the Red Bull Ford is going to be like for 26, because that may be a very good car. I mean, it's unlikely Red Bull are going to produce a bad car in 26. Why would they? Or Ford indeed would produce a bad car with Phil Prew running that whole power unit operation there. Couldn't have a better guy"
Moreover, the former team manager believes that the huge sum of money Aston Martin is willing to spend on the four-time world champion will not tempt him. "But having said that, he may well go to Aston, who knows? I don't think it'll be money. I think it'll be more that he just thinks he's got more chance of having the right car if he goes there than if he stays where he is."
Windsor thinks Verstappen might regret it if he decides to make the switch. "He'll probably think that. But it would be annoying if he went there and the red bull was really quick, wouldn't it? Because nobody knows what the 26 cars are going to be like yet. Nobody knows. The regulations aren't even finalised yet, even though it's May. And so we're all ready to be surprised.
