Fresh from his second podium of the season at the Red Bull Ring, Max Verstappen is hoping to carry that positive momentum into this weekend's British Grand Prix at Silverstone, although he has warned about the challenges the circuit could present.
The four-time world champion finally returned to the sharp end during Red Bull's home weekend in Austria, piling the pressure on George Russell until the very end and fighting for victory for the first time this season after an active aerodynamics failure on his RB22 sent him into the barriers in Q3 on Saturday, ruining his chances of challenging for pole.
Speaking ahead of the British Grand Prix, Verstappen said Red Bull heads to Silverstone encouraged by the progress shown in Austria, where the team was finally able to fight at the front again and secure second place.
The Dutchman expects a much different challenge this weekend, pointing to Silverstone's fast layout as a factor that will make energy management more demanding than at previous circuits. He added that the forecasted warmer conditions could also influence the race, while noting that it is always a special weekend for the team given the circuit's proximity to its home base.

"Austria was a great race for us and it felt good to be finally fighting for the win again. P2 was a solid result and we found good pace and it was nice to be battling on track as well. Now we are straight on to the next race of the double header. I love the track at Silverstone and it has a lot of history."
"I think it will feel quite different and more challenging, especially with the energy deployment in this track. Because of the layout and the high speed corners it could be a tougher race, but it looks like it will be warmer than expected so we will see. It is nice for the Team to be closer to home and it is always a busy one with a lot of things happening in the week."

Verstappen predicts worrying battery scenario at Silverstone

Speaking after the Austrian Grand Prix, Verstappen predicted that Silverstone will present a completely different challenge under the 2026 regulations, with battery management expected to play a decisive role throughout the weekend. After completing simulator laps, the Dutchman was struck by how little battery would be available over the course of a lap, describing the experience as very different from what drivers have been used to at the British circuit.

According to Verstappen, the nature of Silverstone's layout is the main reason. While circuits with long straights and heavy braking zones allow drivers to recover energy, Silverstone's high-speed corners provide far fewer opportunities to recharge the battery.
"I love the track, but I did a few laps on the simulator, I just started laughing. It felt like a different track, to be honest. You barely have battery around the lap. It’s just constantly flat. So yes, it’s going to feel very different compared to what we are used to around Silverstone, because of the layout of the track. Here you have long straights and big braking zones, so you can charge the battery. There you have long straights but in a fast corner, for example, so you can’t really charge the batteries, and then the next straight you don’t have a lot to spend. It’s going to be a tough one."
