Red Bull Racing has to look for a new engine supplier at breakneck speed. At least, that's what most followers assumed shortly after the news that Honda was withdrawing. However, the option of further developing the Honda engines themselves is being taken more and more seriously.
Christian Horner reported this week that Red Bull would prefer to announce a new engine supplier before the end of the season. Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault, however, all say that they are not yet in talks with the team, with Mercedes even ruling out cooperation.
According to Tim Coronel, the fact that Horner is so confident says quite a lot. "Then they know a bit about it anyway, come on." According to him, it would also be a logical decision if Red Bull chose to continue with the Honda engine. "If interests and money don't come into play, you always want to make your own engine, don't you?"

'Red Bull doesn't want to be dependent'

"There is now an opportunity and the [Honda] engine has proven itself. They have learned in the past not to want to depend on an engine manufacturer who also has a team. That is just not going to happen again. Red Bull just isn't doing that at all."
