Liam Lawson has admitted that uncertainty surrounding his Formula 1 future is making it difficult to enjoy his recent performances, despite an encouraging run of results with Racing Bulls. The New Zealander also revealed that he has received little indication of when a decision on his future will be made.
Lawson opens up about the pressure of an uncertain F1 future
Speaking to the media ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lawson reflected on a particularly difficult Mexican Grand Prix weekend, during which the pressure surrounding his future overshadowed an otherwise positive performance.
The Racing Bulls driver endured a challenging qualifying session in Mexico before recovering during the race. Although he initially finished outside the points, post-race penalties promoted him to ninth place, allowing the team to strengthen its position in the Constructors' Championship.
However, Lawson admitted that the uncertainty over his future has prevented him from fully appreciating such results, with the situation increasingly weighing on his mind.

"It is hard because I think obviously you want to enjoy the good results as much as possible. For us, technically we'd had a great race. It was a really hard weekend. Qualifying, again, we had great qualifying, and then we obviously had the penalty.
"But it takes away from some of that emotion when the rest at the moment is undecided about my future. Just with all that in the back of your mind, it definitely takes away from some of the results that we've been having recently."

Lawson reveals lack of clarity over decision on his future
Despite his difficult experience in Mexico, Lawson insisted that his mindset has improved considerably ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, where he is looking forward to racing at a circuit he enjoys.

"Mexico was probably a specific weekend of just... It was hard. To be honest, today I feel alright coming into this weekend. I'm excited about racing here. It's a track I like racing at."
He explained that the combination of events throughout the Mexican weekend made it particularly difficult to remain positive, even after a strong recovery in the race.
"Every day was just a hard day, you know, with sort of everything that was happening. And I think even though the race was great, I probably hadn't quite got over the weekend or the things that had happened over that weekend."
Nevertheless, Lawson believes his performances this season demonstrate that he is doing everything possible to secure his place on the grid: "I feel a lot better now coming into this weekend. I know as well that I feel like there's not really much else I could do at the moment in this car. We're having a great season. I'm having a great season, and the team is having a great season. We're in a position that we've never been before."
With no confirmation yet regarding his future, Lawson was also asked whether he has been given any indication of when a decision could arrive: "It's pretty blurry at the moment, honestly. So, not much indication on when."
