The second round of the 2026 Formula One championship is upon us - the Chinese Grand Prix. Here's how the weather is forming, ahead of the first sprint weekend in the season. It appears that a sunny weekend is in store for the drivers this weekend, which will be music to their ears, as they attempt to get up to speed with the new generation of cars.
After just one full racing weekend, the drivers come into a sprint weekend in China. Therefore, there will be just one single practice session. The sunny and optimal conditions will certainly assist drivers in adapting to the new cars, especially around a high speed and technical circuit like Shanghai.
Despite the cars set to glisten in the sun, the temperatures remain similar to the temperatures the drivers had to cope with in Melbourne just one week ago. This could be crucial for Mercedes, who appeared to thrive in the cooler conditions,
securing a 1-2 finish in Australia. On Friday, the conditions should be sunny, with a peak temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, according to the BBC. Accompanying the clear conditions, will be a gentle breeze of approximately 16 kilometres per hour. Subsequently, the drivers should have optimal driving conditions for Practice and Sprint Qualifying.
Saturday, sees a continuation of those conditions, although slightly warmer conditions, with a peak of 17 degrees Celsius, and a slightly higher amount of wind, sitting at 21 kilometres per hour. The Sprint race and Qualifying, will therefore be mostly calm and consistent in terms of track conditions.
Race day on Sunday, will see some cloud coverage for the first time in the weekend, leading to a very small chance of rain, sitting currently between 6-11%. The cloud coverage won't affect the temperatures however, with a peak of roughly 16 degrees Celsius. The wind will also settle down to about 15 kilometres per hour, giving the drivers yet more optimal conditions for racing.
