Jos Verstappen has warned his son to think about his racing style, after collisions in the opening weeks of the season.
Max Verstappen was forced to retire in Bahrain after he suffered a puncture during a risky undertake on Lewis Hamilton. And in China, the Dutchman was given 10-second time penalty due to a collision with Ferrari’s Sebastien Vettel. The 20-year old has been widely blamed for both incidents.
"The overtake on Vettel really wasn’t on,” Jos Verstappen said.
"That wasn’t possible. It was an error of judgment.
"In some circumstances Max just has to think more. I don’t want him to change his driving style. He passed two people at the start. He did that perfectly. That’s what we all want to see.

"But we don’t want to see these kinds of actions. He needs to have it under control. He needs to think.
"Mad is not the right word, but I’m disappointed. But it’s more painful for himself.”
However, Jos believes his son should not be criticised for the Bahrain incident with Lewis Hamilton, adding:
"I don’t think there was anything wrong with that, I still think it was a good move,
"Afterwards you could say Max should have given Hamilton more room, but Hamilton could have done the same to Max.

"That’s why it’s a racing incident and they’re both taking the blame."
