Juan Pablo Montoya delivered a scathing verdict on Max Verstappen amid his growing frustration with the current state of Formula 1.
Speaking to a betting site, the Colombian did not hold back, urging the Dutchman to either stop complaining about the new regulations or walk away from Formula 1 altogether.
“If you're unhappy with being an F1, you should leave. Have the courage of your convictions. If you're unhappy with the rules, then talk to people instead of threatening that you're going to leave.
“If I were him, I’d shut up, deal with it and admit that he's in a shitty car and admit he's frustrated because his car is a piece of crap that is 20 kilos over and it's going to be uncompetitive all year. At the end of the day nobody's bigger than the sport.”

Montoya ultimately likened Verstappen’s relationship with the current Formula 1 era to a marriage heading for separation, suggesting the best move would be to walk away.
“Formula 1 is bigger than Verstappen if he’s leaving it needs to be permanent. It's like when you're in a marriage and the other person doesn't want to be with you, what are you going to do? If the other person decides you're not the person they want to spend the rest of your life with, whether you want to try to keep them or not, they're going to be unhappy."

Brundle: Max Verstappen's F1 exit threats have become 'boring'

He noted that the topic is starting to feel repetitive, urging Verstappen to either commit to leaving or stop fuelling speculation, stressing that drivers must make the most of their time in the sport.
Brundle also underlined how quickly Formula 1 moves on, highlighting a new generation of talents such as Antonelli, Bearman and Lindblad, who could step in and perform at a high level for a fraction of the cost.

While acknowledging that the sport would carry on without Verstappen, he warned that the ongoing narrative risks doing more harm than good, even if it ultimately reflects the Red Bull driver’s well-known personality.
