Max Verstappen has had continuous issues with race starts in the 2026 season. The Dutchman had a clear answer when the same problem occurred at the Chinese Grand Prix.

By the time Verstappen lined up on the grid, the Red Bull Racing driver had to start with empty batteries, he explained.

When speaking to French broadcaster Canal+ after the race, the four-time world champion was once again asked about this matter. Verstappen was also told that his teammate Isack Hadjar and the two Racing Bull drivers with the same power unit did not have such an issue on Sunday.

The Dutchman had a clear answer. He said: "Yes, but I mean, I'm not doing anything wrong. It’s just the engine not lifting. I’m not an idiot."

This weekend, the Dutchman will compete in the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie, driving a GT3 car. Verstappen is already on track today testing.
