The images from the
Italian Grand Prix are always impressive with the
Ferrari fans in attendance, but this year
Max Verstappen was not happy with the atmosphere at Monza. There were many boos when the Dutchman walked onto the podium as the winner.
During the
press conference after the race, Verstappen was asked if he thought the atmosphere at the Italian circuit was great too. There were again many flares on the circuit, this time not orange, but red. The organisation of the
Dutch Grand Prix had strictly forbidden the torches, but this weekend the smoke bombs were frequently present.
Verstappen did not enjoy atmosphere at Monza
"The atmosphere for me, it was not amazing. But it is what it is,"Verstappen responds. There was a lot of booing after the race when the Dutchman was interviewed and appeared on the podium. The
Ferrari fans present at the circuit were not happy with the course of the race. Because of the late safety car, caused by
Daniel Ricciardo, the race was not restarted. As a result, favourite
Charles Leclerc did not get the chance to battle it out with Verstappen for first position.
"When it happens, of course, everyone speaks to me about it, with the booing and stuff. But at the end of the day, I'm here to try and win the race which done. Some people, of course, they can’t appreciate that but that's of course because they're very passionate fan of a different team. And this is what it is. It's not going to spoil my day. I'm just enjoying the moment," says the
Red Bull Racing driver.
