Max Verstappen admitted he was fed up after a late accident at the British Grand Prix denied him a podium at Silverstone. The Dutchman, in part due to the misfortune of others, was set for a second consecutive podium finish. However, the four-time world champion spun out dramatically in the race's closing stages, with the team confirming that it was due to a rear wing issue.
It is not the first time that a rear wing issue has sprung on Verstappen, who crashed during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix last week. Speaking to the media after the race, Verstappen described the two incidents as "super dangerous" and how he got "lucky" on both occasions.
When asked if it was a repeat of the issue that caused his crash in Austria, he said: "Yeah like Austria but a different fault but lets say it had the same outcome so again, while turning into the corner, the rear wing is not fully attaching and you lose a lot of downforce with that - so spin off the track."
He added: "Well at that point it's super dangerous because you can really hurt yourself two times. I was lucky in Austria, I was lucky here but that's why you get really fed up with it."
Meanwhile, after the British Grand Prix, there was a
high-level meeting between Verstappen's representatives and Red Bull, amid speculation surrounding what the crash might mean for his future with the team. Jos Verstappen, Raymond Vermeulen, Laurent Mekies and Oliver Mintzlaff were engaged in a lengthy conversation at Red Bull hospitality after the race.
