After winning the sprint race in the morning and holding off the two McLarens impressively, Max Verstappen had to settle for just fourth place in qualifying.

On his final flying lap, the Dutchman made a small mistake at Turn 1, which compromised his lap and left him behind Charles Leclerc, who extracted the maximum potential from his car.

According to Andrea Stella, the reason for this setback could be the higher downforce rear wing fitted to Verstappen’s RB21 after the sprint, installed with tomorrow’s race in mind, when rain is expected.

A fourth-place finish that’s still reasonably satisfying, putting Verstappen in a position to attack from the start and try to repeat today’s victory.
