Frederic Vasseur thinks Formula 1 has taken the right steps in recent seasons to make the racing year more exciting. With the budget cap and last year's regulation changes, among others, the teams have moved closer together. Vasseur is now seeing the effect, he told Racecar Engineering.
"All of these are going in the direction of the convergence of performance," Vasseur stated to the Medium. "Even the fact the engines are frozen means F1 is going toward a tighter championship fight, and it is working."
"Teams were spread out about five per cent in qualifying performance in 2017 and 2018, and now most teams are within two per cent. In 2022, five teams were within a one per cent performance margin between them. It will be a fantastic sport if F1 maintains these regulations for a while."

Vasseur sees teamwork as key

Ferrari's new team boss has been in Formula 1 for many years and has seen a major shift in recent seasons. Whereas in the past individual qualities could make the difference in results, Formula 1 teams are increasingly benefiting from teamwork, according to him.

The Frenchman therefore seems intent on trying to make inter-departmental cooperation work better at the Italian racing team. Whether that will be enough to stand with the world title immediately in his first season remains to be seen this calendar year.
