Yuki Tsunoda failed to score points once again for Red Bull Racing, this time at the British Grand Prix. According to the Japanese driver, this was partly because he was behind on updates compared to teammate Max Verstappen. It was the Japanese driver's fifth non-consecutive points finish in Silverstone, and he is currently in P17 in the standings.
According to Tsunoda, however, there is light at the end of the tunnel - at least, on his side of the garage. He will be receiving new upgrades at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, which will bring his car closer to that of teammate Verstappen.
"At least I'm going to have upgrades next weekend. I think I'm currently two steps behind in terms of [the] package compared to Max. That will for sure help for the next race," said an optimistic Tsunoda to the media, including GPblog.
"At the same time it's going to be a sprint weekend so it's the only time I can adjust to that will be free practice, but I'll do my best."
Tsunoda identifies improvements Ahead of Spa-Francorchamps
The Japanese driver crossed the finish line in P15 after a chaotic British Grand Prix.
Asked whether this weekend was overall a positive one for him, he admitted that there were definitely positive points to be taken from the weekend. "To be honest, in terms of qualifying, without the engine issue, I was going through Q3 this time."
In addition, the Red Bull driver stated that he is behind in terms of updates should not be forgotten. "Like I said, with [being] two steps [behind] in terms of [the] overall package, I think to be honest the difference between me and Max in Q2 was just four tenths, that stacks up quite well. So at least short run, going in the right direction, I'm happy with it. I think the long runs are something to look at."
