Following his impressive tenth place finish, Franz Tost has revealed he told Alexander Albon to “be aggressive” as the rookie started from the pit lane following his dramatic crash in FP3 at the Chinese Grand Prix.
The Toro Rosso driver flew through the field on a fresh pair of soft tyres including some impressive overtaking, rising from 20th and a pit lane start to record his second points finish of the season. He was subsequently voted driver of the day.
Tost was full of praise for the rookie driver and admitted it was the perfect race for the Thai driver.
“Alex did another fantastic race, and scored a point for a second time,” Tost told Motorsport.com.
“I’m really happy with his performance and how he drove this race.

“It was a perfect race, without any incidents, and also his overtaking manoeuvres during the race were very good.
“I said to him, 'be very aggressive'. Starting from the pitlane, what do you want to do? The strategy was to start with the soft tyre, to be aggressive, and to overtake.
“Originally we planned a two-stop strategy with him, but the soft tyre worked quite well, and therefore we changed to a one-stop,” he added.
