For a significant part of this year, the 2020 Formula 1 season was in serious doubt. In the end we managed to fill the calendar with mainly European events. It is hoped that 2021 will look different, but that remains to be seen.
The coronavirus had major consequences for the past season. Half of the races were cancelled, others were postponed, and alternate tracks were added to the calendar.

More disruptions due to Covid-19 expected

The calendar for 2021 looks like normal for now, but the world is still suffering from the virus and it is questionable if next season can continue as planned. FIA President Jean Todt warns Formula 1 and the rest of the car and motorsport world about more disruptions.
"2020 was a great season in which we saw a lot of creativity," says Todt ahead of the FIA Prize Giving gala. "Who would have guessed a year ago that we would have three races in Italy and multiple races in a row on the same circuit?"

"We have worked hard to reduce the number of Covid-19 victims in the world of motor racing. But unfortunately, it's not over yet. There are still lockdowns, and the virus is still there. Progress is being made and we are expecting a vaccine, but I think we will soon see potential adjustments to the calendar. I don't think at least half of next year will be as normal," says Todt.
