The FIA has confirmed that Isack Hadjar, Lance Stroll and reigning world champion Lando Norris will serve grid penalties for Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix. McLaren confirmed before the Belgian Grand Prix weekend that
Norris would take a 10-place grid drop after the team opted to install a fourth power electronics unit.
Although the previous unit had performed without issues since Miami, Mercedes introduced an updated specification featuring several reliability improvements. McLaren therefore decided to switch to the latest version, accepting the automatic grid penalty that comes with exceeding the seasonal allocation.
As for Hadjar, the Red Bull driver has been handed
a back-of-the-grid start after exceeding the permitted allocation of several power unit components. His car has been fitted with a fifth internal combustion engine, turbocharger and exhaust system, resulting in a total of three additional elements beyond the seasonal limit. Under the regulations, that automatically consigns him to the back of the grid for Sunday's race.
Lance Stroll has also been handed a grid penalty after exceeding the permitted allocation of MGU-K components. The Aston Martin driver has taken a fourth MGU-K of the season, triggering an automatic 10-place grid drop.
