The F1 calendar's puzzle is getting harder to be figured out, with many destinations hoping for a place to host the competition. Rotation was also brought up as a solution, and it was recently announced that the Belgian GP will not be held every season after their contract extension. According to F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, the Imola weekend could be another one that would have the same plan.

Warnings for Italian tracks

The future of Spa-Francorchamps in F1 was uncertain for some time, but it has been announced that an agreement has been reached, and their contract has been extended. However, the Belgian GP will not take place every season: the grid will not travel to Spa in 2028 and in 2030.
According to Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix could have the same faith. "Imola has the will to go ahead and continue the project. The Enzo and Dino Ferrari is an important circuit that could be part of the rotation, but not with Monza," the Italian told Autosprint. Domenicali additionally said that before the start of the new season, Imola's faith will be known.
The Italian GP at Monza did already secure an extension until the 2031 season. Still, according to Domenicali, things have to change at the track near Milan to comply with their agreement. "The contract with Monza has been extended with important commitments in terms of infrastructure modernisation. What was done at Monza last year was only a necessary first step. The concept that it is lucky to be considered a historic venue does not mean it has to stay old. Historical has value only if it is projected into the future," the Italian concluded.
