Williams driver
Sergey Sirotkin believes his team made progress at the Chinese Grand Prix, despite the British-based team sitting bottom of the championship table.
Neither Sirotkin, or teammate
Lance Stroll scoring a point so far this season. In China, just as the previous two races Stroll finished in 14th, with his teammate behind him in 15th. Sirotkin was 10th quickest in final practice, and the Russian was encouraged by the improvements.
“It was a tough race to be honest,” the rookie said.
“I had quite a good launch and because I knew I had nothing to lose I needed to try and maximise our chance.
“But then there were a couple of cars on the inside who were fighting and they were kind of sliding towards me and pushed me a bit wide - and then I was too wide and lost it all."
Sirotkin, who finished 19 seconds off the points after a second pit stop under the safety car, added:
“Since then I think it’s an obvious improvement in the pace, because we were at least able to somehow be in a group with people and not be completely lost, which is a good point.”
Next time on the track in Azerbaijan, where Stroll finished 3rd last season, Williams will be looking to improve even more.
