Sainz Sr. does not need surgery after heavy crash at Dakar

Carlos Sainz Sr. has confirmed he will not need surgery. The father of the Formula 1 driver of the same name experienced a heavy crash during the Dakar Rally in January in which he broke two vertebrae. Retrieved from Twitter the driver says he will not need surgery thanks to special treatment.

During the ninth stage of the Dakar Rally, the Spanish driver crashed. His Audi rolled off a dune and landed on his nose. Sainz was taken away by medical helicopter due to chest pain, but decided to return halfway through the flight to continue racing. However, the car did not agree with Sainz and so the race ended there on the spot for the Spaniard. Sainz was still taken to hospital for checks, where it was found that he had fractured two vertebrae.

A month has since passed and Sainz has revealed how he is doing. Via an upbeat video on Twitter, the Spaniard talks about the treatment he has had recently. Sainz was treated with a special radio frequency treatment called INDIBA. The treatment ensures that Sainz will not have to undergo surgery and his recovery will be faster.

Racing will be out of the question for the foreseeable future, but the video shows that Sainz is doing a lot better than before. His crash meant the Spaniard did not reach the finish line of the Dakar Rally for the first time since 2017. Previously, Sainz managed to win the rally three times.
