There is a lot of talk about a possible restart of the F1 season 2020 on the Red Bull Ring in July. However, there is still a chance that the season won't start at all this year. According to Carlos Sainz, that blow would be extremely hard, but the Spaniard is trying to see the situation in a positive light.
"I'd rather assume that there will be fewer races than that I imagine that everything will be cancelled", says Sainz to Spanish media. "Cancelling the season would be a huge blow that would be difficult to accept."
Although a season without races is therefore difficult for him and the sport to digest, he understands that this may be necessary in the worst case. As long as authorities do not control the COVID-19 coronavirus, large-scale events will have to take their place.

Maximum of fourteen races

However, the McLaren driver also sees this crisis as an opportunity for Formula 1 to change things. As a result of this situation, the teams will be more aware than ever of the need for an equal and sustainable sport. F1 can therefore set an example for other sports by coming out of this crisis stronger.

Sainz is also more sceptical about the possibility of racing this year than the Formula 1 organization itself. They still hope to organize up to twenty Grands Prix this year. Sainz assumes that at best the season will be between eight and fourteen races.
