The Formula 1 championship battle is an incredibly close duel this year between McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. However, George Russell may have just given Norris a slight advantage heading into the second half of the year.
Piastri is leading the championship during the summer break by nine points despite his teammate taking a hard-fought victory last time out at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Both McLaren drivers have taken multiple victories this year and have exclusively shared the top two spots on the podium over the last four rounds.
Norris has finished first in three of the last four rounds and has closed the gap after Piastri took a trio of consecutive wins from Bahrain-Miami.
Russell isn't fighting for the title this year as McLaren continues to set the pace, but the Briton may have just given Norris a slight edge in the title fight.

Norris may have been self-critical at times despite winning in Monaco and his home race at Silverstone, while Piastri seems to have more of an ice-cool demeanor.
Russell explained how Norris can get an edge over his teammate with 10 rounds to go. He told Autosport that staying away from the news can help: "For sure. The only way you could keep everybody happy, or by having no negativity towards you, is by saying nothing, because everybody will forever have a view. Everybody will share it."

Russell: 'You don't even look at it or read it'

“You get to a point where you don’t even look at it or read it, because everyone’s got a different opinion. Everyone’s open to their view. But it’s not something that really concerns me at all, to be honest. I don’t look, so it doesn’t bother me.”

The championship battle is now likely to be a straight duel between Norris and Piastri, as their nearest rival, Max Verstappen is now 97 points off the lead.
Norris and Piastri have only had one major flashpoint so far, with the incident in Canada, and it has largely been a clean fight prior to the summer break.
