George Russell grew up with several current Formula 1 drivers and where he has a seat at Williams, he sees his friends making careers with the top teams. Now his manager is Toto Wolff, so maybe one day the Brit will join Mercedes. For now he has to do it with Williams and because of this he is a bit jealous.

Bit jealous

"We're all youngsters, we all want to have that successful career, and races and victories, right here in the moment," says Russell in a Sky F1 Instagram chat, "Even Nico Rosberg, I don't know how old he was when he won his first race, how many years he had in F1, but if you're doing the job and performing, we'll all get our chance."
"That's all I can do at the moment. Seeing my mates up there in potential championship-winning cars – it's something I'm a little bit jealous of obviously, because I want to be up there trying to fight as well." That's not in it for now, since Williams hasn't been really competitive in recent years, but in the world of F1 nothing is out of the question.

Opportunities come naturally

Russell continues to have confidence in himself, because he continues to do his best and expects that he will get a chance to join a big team. "Nevertheless I know as long as I keep on performing and I keep doing my job to the best of my ability that opportunity will come whether it's next year, two years, five years, 10 years. It should come."
Since Russell has a link with Mercedes, the driver will undoubtedly hope that he gets there someday. However, Mercedes is scheduled with Hamilton and Bottas, but both contracts expire at the end of this year. If Hamilton decides to stop or if Bottas doesn't join the team, a road opens up for Russell.
