After winning the Extreme E race in Senegal, Nico Rosberg looked back on his time as a Mercedes driver, and says he has sometimes been too critical of Toto Wolff, something he only came to realise when he took over as team boss himself. The 2016 world champion also explains how his experience in Formula 1 guides his approach in Extreme E.
"I like to be involved and support where I can. Of course, I have such a vast experience. I always have to be careful that I don't intervene too much. There's a fine line" is how Rosberg began his analysis of his management style in the Extreme E class. He does this in conversation with Autosport.com. After his team again clashed with Lewis Hamilton's, it was the drivers under Rosberg's wing who managed to win the race.
Rosberg continued, looking back on his time as a couruer at Mercedes: "It's a new challenge for me because I've never been on this opposite side of the road. Now I look back and when I used to criticise Toto, now I'm like, ‘Oh, shit, OK , maybe I shouldn't criticise him’. It's actually quite difficult to be in that role"

Formula One approach

In addition, Rosberg stresses the value of his Formula One experience in determining strategy and working practices as team boss in Extreme E. He explains: "It's so difficult because nobody understands the cars properly because you don't test them. You have to guess and figure things out. As a team, we're really trying to bring some Formula 1 approach to Extreme E. That's really helping us as a team to perform."
