Daniel Ricciardo produced a scintillating win in Shanghai at the weekend, so does this mean he is in with a shout of a title effort? He certainly thinks so…
Despite having an exceptional Formula One career so far, Ricciardo has never really been in a title fight, but with more exceptional driving similar to what we saw on Sunday, the Australian could have a chance this year.
After Championship leader Sebastian Vettel’s eighth place in China, Ricciardo has closed the gap to 17 points, which may seem like a lot, but another good race for Ricciardo and a poor one for Vettel could see things switched right around.
Ricciardo said: “I’ve said it a few times, just give me a chance to be in a title hunt and I really believe I will take it.
“I feel like I can capitalise on opportunities and I guess (China) was a good example even with a fat lap I am still pretty fast and pretty good on a Sunday.”
Ricciardo had his mechanics to thank for getting him onto the track in qualifying however, an engine change before the session almost scuppering his entire weekend. Ricciardo thanked them: “I am super thankful they helped me pull this off today”.
