Red Bull Racing and Max Verstappen seemed to be heading for victory at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but things went wrong at the end of the race. The Dutchman suffered a blowout and had to abandon the race prematurely.
Pirelli immediately launched an investigation into the incident after the race, but stated that there was nothing wrong with the quality of the tyres. "We have worked closely with Pirelli and the FIA during their investigation into Max’s tyre failure on lap 47 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix," Red Bull responded. "We can confirm that no car fault was found."
In recent days, it was rumoured that Red Bull was playing with the tyre pressure, but the Austrian racing stable denies this. "We adhered to Pirelli’s tyre parameters at all times and will continue to follow their guidance. We are grateful that following the weekend’s high speed impacts no drivers were injured."

Victory for Pérez

For Sergio Pérez, Verstappen's crash meant he could go for the win. The Mexican driver held off Lewis Hamilton on the restart to take his first top prize for Red Bull.
