With Formula 1 heading to the United Arab Emirates and the drivers’ title still finely poised between three contenders, here are the records that could be broken at the Abu Dhabi race. The Yas Marina Circuit hosts its fifth title decider since its debut in the sport in 2009. This weekend’s race will see the circuit eclipse Suzuka, Monza, Interlagos, and Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez to become the track where the most drivers’ championships have been decided.
However, the spotlight this weekend is not on the circuit but firmly fixed on the trio of
Lando Norris,
Max Verstappen, and
Oscar Piastri as they
continue their fight for the 2025 drivers’ title. Here are the records the trio could break this weekend in Abu Dhabi.
Records Norris could break in Abu Dhabi
If Norris wins the title, he will become the 11th different British driver to claim the championship, extending Britain’s record as the nation with the most different title-winning drivers. He will be the first new driver to join that list since Jenson Button in 2009, when he won with Brawn GP.
The 26-year-old could also become the fifth driver to win his first title in his seventh season in Formula 1, following in the footsteps of Jochen Rindt, Mike Hawthorn, Kimi Raikkonen, and Verstappen.

Records Verstappen could break in Abu Dhabi
If Verstappen wins the title in Abu Dhabi, he would become only the fourth driver, after Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher, and Lewis Hamilton, to have won as many as five championships.
The
Red Bull Racing driver would also equal Schumacher’s record for the most consecutive title wins – five.

Records Piastri could break in Abu Dhabi
If Piastri claims victory, he will become the third Australian driver to win the drivers’ title, after Jack Brabham and Alan Jones.
He would also become only the eighth driver to win the drivers’ crown within his first three seasons in Formula 1, and the first to achieve this since Lewis Hamilton in 2008.
