Bulgarian poised for F1 debut with Racing Bulls

Red Bull junior Nikola Tsolov is now allowed to make his debut during a Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend. The Bulgarian covered more than 300 kilometers during his very first F1 test, which permits him to take part in a free practice session.

On Thursday, the Bulgarian completed a test at the Imola circuit for Racing Bulls, covering no less than 690 kilometers. Tsolov took to the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in the VCARB 02. The test took place under the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) program, which allows Formula 1 teams to run older cars for, among other things, the development of young drivers.

"My first TPC day in a Formula 1 car is done, and I’m incredibly happy with how today went," Tsolov responded afterwards. "I enjoyed every lap, and it’s hard to put into words what it means to finally get this opportunity."

Racing Bulls team boss Alan Permane also looked back with satisfaction on the Bulgarian’s performance. According to the Briton, Tsolov made a strong impression during his first encounter with Formula 1 machinery.

He said: "It was a very positive step for Nikola. He adapted quickly to the car and showed the composure you want to see from a driver getting into a Formula 1 car for the first time," said Permane.

Tsolov has been mentioned in the rumor mill as a possible full-time driver for Racing Bulls next season. To do so, he must first obtain a super license. However, he would be allowed to race in FP1. If he succeeds, information from GPblog suggests that Tsolov will be waiting in the wings for Formula 1.
