Radical changes already on the RB21 by Friday? Waché answers!

As early as Friday, Red Bull Racing are planning to have new parts ready on their car. The team's technical director Pierre Waché talked to PlanetF1 about the changes coming to the RB20 on the Friday in Bahrain.

After Liam Lawson drove the car alone on Thursday, a double session awaits Max Verstappen on Friday in Sakhir. The Milton Keynes-based team is already prepared to make changes, however, Waché explained it will not be extraordinary. "No, it will not be radically different. We will evaluate parts. It’s true that, based on the calendar and everything, but I think everybody’s doing the same. Nothing has changed compared to previous years," he began.

The technical director continued: "You have your baseline car, and you try to have some stuff from the full system of development to come to the track as soon as possible and, based on the capacity of manufacturing the part and everything. you try to evaluate before race one. I think we have some new parts coming for day three, but it is not massively different." Waché also explained that he believes every team on the grid are also completing the same process.

Red Bull could also already fast-track some upgrades, that were planned to be first tried in Melbourne in roughly two weeks' time, "It was planned for race one, but we try to push it a little bit for day three here because it gives us a possibility to see whether the direction is correct or not, but it’s not magic."

At the Austrian team, the mood has been trending upwards so far. Team principal Christian Horner explained he saw a positive Verstappen after first driving the RB21 this test event on Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchman also said he is enjoying how things are going so far, but warned his team not to make the same mistakes they did the previous season after feeling good in pre-season.
