Pierre Waché
Pierre Waché is the technical director of Red Bull Racing and one of the key figures behind the team’s success in the Max Verstappen era. The Frenchman was born on December 1, 1974, and has been active in Formula 1 since 2001. In 2025, he is the main figure responsible for the design of the Red Bull car.
Career from Michelin to Red Bull Racing
Waché studied fluid dynamics with a specialization in biomechanical engineering. In 2001, he began his Formula 1 career with tire supplier Michelin, working on the interaction between the tires and the track surface. After Michelin left the sport in 2006, he moved to BMW. When BMW also withdrew from Formula 1 in 2009, Waché joined Sauber, where he became head of Vehicle Performance.
In 2013, he was recruited by Red Bull Racing, initially as head of the engineering department. He quickly rose to the position of performance director. In 2018, he was appointed technical director, working directly under Adrian Newey. Waché played a key role in the design of the successful RB16B, RB18, and RB19.
Responsible for the RB21 and Red Bull’s future
Following the announced departure of Adrian Newey, Waché became the primary designer at Red Bull Racing. The RB21, used in the 2025 season, is his first car without direct input from Newey. In 2024, Waché extended his contract until 2028, despite rumors of a possible move to Ferrari.
At the beginning of 2025, Waché clashed with Christian Horner and Helmut Marko, who wanted the car to have a broader “window” to make it easier to drive. Waché resisted this, arguing that such a change would come at the expense of the car’s outright performance.
Net worth and salary of Pierre Waché
There are no official figures available regarding Waché’s exact salary, but estimates suggest around £450,000 per year. His total net worth is not publicly known, but given his long-standing and influential role within top teams such as Red Bull and Sauber, it is assumed that he is financially well-off.
