The
McLaren IndyCar team are very interested in
Sergio Perez' services. The Mexican will leave
Racing Point after this season and hasn't found a new seat yet.
Last Wednesday Perez himself announced that he will leave Racing Point. He will be replaced by
Sebastian Vettel. The team will then continue under the name Aston Martin Racing. Perez has previously said that if no offers in F1 motivate him, then he will move away.
He has previously indicated that he is interested in the
IndyCar, the Indianapolis 500 is on his bucket list.
McLaren team boss Zak Brown says he regrets that Perez has lost his seat at Racing Point. Brown expects the 30-year-old Mexican to find a new team, but if not he would like to talk to him about a place in the
IndyCar.
To Haas or Alpha
"He will probably end up in Formula 1, either Haas or Alfa Romeo," says Brown to
Motorsport.com. "But if he's interested in the IndyCar, and I think he's a great racing driver, then we'd certainly be interested in talking to him". If Perez does make the switch, he'll follow in
Fernando Alonso's footsteps. The Spaniard, who will return to
Formula 1 next year at the new Alpine Racing, drove the Indianapolis 500 for McLaren last year.
