Perez heard by bizarre accident about the arrival of Vettel

Earlier this month, months of speculation came to an end; Sebastian Vettel will drive for Racing Point (as of next year Aston Martin) at the expense of Sergio Perez. However, the Mexican driver found out about the deal with Vettel in a very special way.

The arrival of Vettel and thus the departure of Perez were announced in the week before the race at Mugello. Although Perez initially indicated that he knew nothing, he later stated that he knew and suspected a few things anyway. On RaceFans.net several sources have now confirmed that Perez had heard about the deal with Vettel to Aston Martin before, by accident.

After the race at Monza, team owner Lawrence Stroll telephoned the team's lawyer to draw up a contract for Vettel. He outlined specific terms and conditions, including an annual amount of $1.5 million, plus performance bonuses and a separate Aston Martin ambassador agreement. Stroll made the phone call from his hotel room, but Perez was in the adjoining room and could follow the whole conversation through the walls.

For the time being, it is not yet known if and where Perez will be driving in Formula 1 next year. He has let it be known that he has received several offers, also from the IndyCar.
