Sergio Perez will definitely stay with Cadillac in 2027. The Mexican has himself confirmed that he will also compete for the American team for a second season. His name surfaced in the rumor mill at Williams and Alpine, but Sergio Perez is staying put. Despite the limitations of the Cadillac car, the Mexican is having a fine season with the
Formula 1 debutant. That Perez is tagging on for a second year with Cadillac therefore comes as no surprise.
Speaking to, among others, GPblog about staying on in 2027, Perez said: "Well, from my side it was already clear when I came here. It was a two-year deal. But obviously I want this. I see this as my project and I want to be part of Cadillac for the long term, because when you start something from scratch it requires a lot of time."
Perez does not even rule out staying with Cadillac beyond next season. "I'm really happy here and I look forward to continuing for the long term here. I think there will be some discussions later on and we'll see what happens," he added.
Sporting redemption after Red Bull disappointment
This season, Perez has repeatedly said that he still feels he belongs among the best drivers on the Formula 1 grid. He certainly demonstrated that in the first months of the season by bringing the Cadillac further forward than what was actually possible. In Monaco, Perez even seemed set to score Cadillac’s first points, but he lost his top-10 finish after a time penalty.
Perez returned to
F1 at the start of this season after a year of enforced absence. The Mexican lost his seat as
Max Verstappen’s teammate at Red Bull Racing at the end of 2024, after a difficult year with the Austrian team. At that time, there were no other seats available in F1, so Perez had no choice but to take a sabbatical.
