Kimi Antonelli has topped the timing charts in the opening practice session at the Dutch GP, ahead of
Lando Norris and
George Russell.
The Italian's lap time of 1:12.949 was enough to edge out the competition after the first hour of practice during FP1.
The opening stages saw Antonelli set the pace on a drying track, before the two Mercedes and Ferrari drivers exchanged the top spot before the 30 minute mark, with Leclerc quickest before the teams switched to focusing on race pace.
However, when the soft tyres came out at the end of the session, it was Antonelli who emerged quickest ahead of Norris, Russell, and the two Ferraris of
Lewis Hamilton and Leclerc.
Oscar Piastri, Nico Hulkenberg, Pierre Gasly, Gabriel Bortoleto and Arvid Lindblad completed the top 10 with
Max Verstappen only 11th in the weekend
after signing his new deal. A number of drivers ventured into the gravel including Max Verstappen, Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. Carlos Sainz suffered floor damage after he had two separate trips into the gravel.
Traffic was also an issue with Oscar Piastri blocked by the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso early in the session, while Lando Norris also could have gone quicker but came across an Alpine on his quickest lap.
Liam Lawson was 14t in his return to Red Bull as a fill-in for Isack Hadjar who will miss the Dutch Grand Prix after suffering a wrist injury. Yuki Tsunoda, on his return to
Formula 1, went P17 in his Racing Bulls.
