Jack Doohan is trying his luck in Japan’s Super Formula. The Australian — who was sidelined by Alpine during the past F1 season — is taking part in a test this week. Since leaving his F1 race seat, Doohan has returned to Alpine as a test and reserve driver, though his future with the French team appears uncertain. The Super Formula test, however, could open doors to another F1 role.
Doohan’s chance comes courtesy of
Toyota, which has been strengthening its ties with Haas F1. There’s a possibility he could step in as a second reserve driver for the American team alongside Ryo Hirakawa, while continuing to compete in Super Formula for a Toyota-linked outfit.

Williams driver in action in Japan
Luke Browning is also participating in the test in Japan this week. The
Williams Racing youngster participated in Tuesday’s
Formula 1 Young Rookie Test and is set to fly out immediately afterwards.
Williams has not confirmed to GPblog whether the test is a stepping stone to a full-time Super Formula seat for the Brit. Regardless, Browning is set to serve as Williams’ reserve driver in Formula 1 for the 2026 season.
