Nyck de Vries will drive for AlphaTauri next season. The Dutchman has had to work hard for his place in
Formula 1. In 2019, he already became champion in
Formula 2 but a switch to the F1-grid did not happen until 2023.
Olav Mol talks about the driver's performances at Dutch talkshow
Renze. De Vries has become both world champion in F2 and
Formula E. He was also appointed reserve driver at
Mercedes in 2021 and in 2022 he replaced
Alexander Albon at
Williams at the
Spanish Grand Prix. The latter was his
F1 debut. Later that year, it was announced that the Dutchman will have a spot on the grid at AlphaTauri from 2023.
Respect
Mol says De Vries has worked hard to get to this point and respects him for it.
"He eventually got asked. If you are not asked to drive in Formula 1 you have nothing to do there. He has worked his way up and he has done a great job." Last June the commentator caused a stir after he considered De Vries not worthy enough for F1. According to him, De Vries would not be able to manage his tyres properly. Soon, the Dutch driver will be able to show how he handles his car.
