Number 1 car Verstappen has effect: "Not arrogance, but confidence"

The reigning Formula One World Champion may make the choice to exchange his starting number for the number one in the following season. Max Verstappen made that choice, something that Christian Horner believes is an additional motivating factor for the Red Bull Racing team.

The Red Bull team boss says he gets great satisfaction from seeing the number 1 on Verstappen's car. According to Horner, it gives the team even more incentive to maximize in the upcoming F1 season.

"Sticking that number one on the car after all the pain that we went through last year, the fight that it was in 2021, and now the fight is to make sure we retain it on the car... it’s just energised everyone in the team," explained the Brit in conversation with Formula1.com.

He sees the extra motivation in all team members and states that in addition it also gives confidence. "It is such an important thing in any sport – to not have arrogance, but confidence," states Horner, who sees the positivity reflected throughout the organization.
