Today racing fans are in for a treat as two triple crown races take place this Sunday: the Monaco Grand Prix, and the Indy 500. Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri speak about the latter after having finished the former in P1, P2 and P3 respectively. Norris won ahead of Leclerc and Piastri around the Monte-Carlo twisty and bumpy streets. When asked if watching the Indy 500 was in their plans for the evening Piastri was the first to answer media including GPblog.
"I will probably be watching on my couch at home, unless I get an invite, and you're welcome to come if you want. But yeah, probably on my couch. And I'll keep my answer short, because I want to go watch it."
Leclerc won't do the 'crazy' Indy 500
Leclerc wasn't clear on the starting time of the legendary race and after thanking his Australian colleague for the invite, gave his reasons as to why he wouldn't be able to watch it: "I think I'll still be in a meeting. We are very late. With Ferrari, we always leave late."
Delving into whether or not he would ever do the Indy 500, the Monegasque said: "It's a crazy race. We were just speaking with Oscar before. I don't think I will ever do it. I think it's a different level of craziness."
"I'm happy in F1. I love F1 and I'm fully focused on that first and foremost. And then when this will end, another thing that I want to take is doing Le Mans with my brother. So these are probably the two things that I really want to do." "The Indy 500, I'm not sure, but I have a lot of respect for these guys, and I'll try to follow as much as I can tonight."
Norris wouldn't do the Indy 500 because he 'likes turning right as well'
The Monaco Grand Prix winner shares Leclerc's wish to do Le Mans with his own brother, although his sibbling been 'out of it' for a while now, the Briton admits.
Speaking on the Indy 500, Norris said: "I just have a lot of respect for these guys. I say congrats to Robert Shwartzman for pole [for the Indy 500]. It was pretty impressive. I was his teammate back in 2015 or 2016 [in] Formula Renault. So to see him go on to do something like that, I think it's pretty cool."
"But it is something I'll never do. I can say it right now, I'm not doing it. [I] just have no interest in doing it. Not my thing, it's not what I enjoy, even though I do I've done on the sim and it was quite fun."
"I got taken out. It didn't hurt, no. I could just press escape and I was good."
Despite stating his respect for the
IndyCar drivers, Norris quipped that he didn't just like turning into one side.
"I have a lot of a lot of respect for these guys there's a lot of incredibly talented drivers that are over there in America and some of them that could do very good in Formula One"
"But, I like tuning right as well. So that's the main thing."
On whether, after winning Monaco, the triple crown lure would take him to doing to Indy 500, the Briton replied with a clear-cut "Nope."
