The recent enforcement of the McLaren team's papaya rules at the Italian Grand Prix has continued to stir reactions from several Formula 1 faithful, including NBA star Joel Embiid. The 2023 NBA MVP has not held back his thoughts on the incident involving both
Lando Norris and
Oscar Piastri at the Monza race.
During the event at the ‘Temple of Speed,’ both McLaren drivers were made to swap positions on track following a pistol mishap. Norris, who had lost track position to Piastri following a lengthy pitstop incident, was allowed to reclaim his place on track, with the McLaren pitwall highlighting to Piastri that the decision was made in the spirit of fairness under its racing rules.
However, Embiid appeared to be far from pleased with this decision and took to his X account to air his thoughts.
“These papaya rules are something else lmao….. Oscar is a better man than me,” he wrote.
The decision by the McLaren team, which has continued to stir reactions following the Grand Prix, witnessed Norris cut the points gap to the top of the drivers’ standings to 31 points.
