Post Grand Prix chaos: Minister urges workers not to strike

Around 200,000 visitors are expected at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola over the next few days. Many F1 fans will arrive at the circuit by train, so the last thing the organisers could use is a strike by train crews. A strike appeared to be on the cards after the Grand Prix finished on Sunday.

The infrastructure and transport minister has decided that the national strike is banned for this weekend. He points out that the importance of the Formula 1 race is too great to allow everything to go haywire because of train crews. He has therefore signed a decree stating that harsh action will be taken against train staff who do go on strike.

For now, it seems that the Italian union is honouring the alliance, and so there will be 'normal' train travel between Sunday 3am and Monday 2am. Whether there will be an alternative date for the strike is unknown.

To visit the Grand Prix in Imola, taking public transport is hugely recommended. This is because the number of parking spaces in and around Imola is extremely limited.
