McLaren team principal Andrea Stella shared his thoughts on the penalty handed to Oscar Piastri in the Brazil GP and, more broadly, on his weekend. "For the moment we respect the decision of the stewards, take it on the chin and move forwards"
- Andrea StellaSpeaking to Sky Sports after the race, Stella chose not to comment in detail on the early-race incident involving the Australian, Kimi Antonelli, and Charles Leclerc, in which the stewards deemed Piastri primarily at fault.
"I need to review with some attention. For the moment we respect the decision of the stewards. Take it on the chin and move forward."
The Australian’s race was hampered by
the ten-second penalty to be served during his pit stop, with Piastri dropping from second to fifth and losing another 15 crucial points in the title fight against his teammate.
Finally, reflecting on another challenging weekend for the No. 81, which saw him retire from the sprint race following a spin at Turn 3 that sent him into the barriers, Stella added: "We need certainly to make sure that we can extract the full potential out of the car and out of Oscar's driving in all conditions.
"Lately we have faced these low-grip conditions which have challenged his natural style. We need to make sure that we are able to extract the most even when things don't work to our natural strengths.
"Also we need to look at the execution of the weekend because crashing in the Sprint, today with the penalty. We also need to review if there was something more we could have done with the strategy to help Oscar. So a few things that we need to review, not in a desperate way but in a rational way to capitalise on the strengths," he concluded.
Piastri reacts to Brazil GP penalty
The Australian attempted an inside pass on Kimi Antonelli at Turn 1, while Charles Leclerc went for a move on the outside. Piastri Then locked up and collided with Antonelili, who also turned into the corner, veering toward the inside, and there the McLaren and the Mercedes collided and collected Leclerc, an innocent bystander in the incident.
