McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has stated that he enjoyed seeing Lando Norris' aggressive race start in Miami. Although Norris lost positions on the opening lap after attempting to overtake Max Verstappen, Stella was impressed with the Brit's mindset.
"You have to approach with the mindset of reviewing where the opportunities lie," Stella began to GPblog and other media present in the paddock after the Miami Grand Prix. "And I think in this case, Lando could have been a little bit more patient. But I quite like to see Lando aggressive, going for taking the lead in the race. And sometimes it's just a matter of a fraction of a second. And in this situation, the stewards elected that there was no need to intervene. But definitely, the manoeuvre was quite at the limit."
Lando Norris fell down the grid but made his way back up to second place throughout the race. He finished a few seconds behind his teammate Oscar Piastri. The Australian has won three consecutive races and leads the F1 drivers championship heading into Imola next weekend.
Despite Stella's viewpoint, he admitted that Norris could've been slightly more patient at the Miami International Autodrome as he had a whole race ahead of him to overtake his Red Bull rival.

Stella admits McLaren car was 'certain' to pass Verstappen

"With the benefit of hindsight, let's say, considering the situation in corners 1-2, it could have been better for Lando to just lift and make sure that he could keep the second position because the car we see was very fast," he explained. "And he would certainly have passed Max, like Oscar, and then later Lando was in condition to do."
The McLaren team principal continued discussing the incident: "So I think like every situation in racing, you have to approach with the mindset of reviewing where the opportunities lie. And I think in this case, Lando could have been a little bit more patient. But I quite like to see Lando aggressive, going for taking the lead of the race."
