The Miami Grand Prix may have wrapped up some time ago, but despite an exciting weekend, there has been slight criticism from the drivers amid a lot of praise. While these are small comments, they are pointing to the FIA for a potential solution. The
Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, with its unpredictable weather, a thrilling sprint race, and several crashes, certainly made for an action-packed weekend. But was it down to the Florida circuit, or just a series of unfortunate events?
Lewis Hamilton,
George Russell, and Nico Hülkenberg share their thoughts.
Hamilton started off by saying that the circuit is fine as it is designed. "Track-wise – I can't really think of anything off the top of my mind that needs to improve here. I think each year we come back, there's adjustments being made," the Ferrari driver stated. Hamilton finished third in a wet and wild sprint in Miami, but couldn't back those efforts up in the race with an eighth-placed finish.
Hulkenberg makes a request: 'This is something for the FIA'
Russell agrees with his former teammate's words. "I enjoy coming to Miami. It’s a crazy race. The circuit is quirky. That tight section – we don’t love it, but it's different. You know, the same as in Baku – we don’t love the castle section, it’s so tight and very challenging, but you don’t want every circuit to be the same either. It’s an amazing race. It's improving every year."
Sauber's Hulkenberg also stated that he enjoys the
Miami International Autodrome. However, he stays out of the discussion about the circuit adjustments. "
Like George said, it’s a bit different. And you personally raised that time – 4 PM – I think it's more an FIA subject but it's a little late for me personally. And traffic is definitely a topic here. And unfortunately this year, apparently the Grand Prix cut the police escort budget. So that's going to be a bit of a – it would be nice to have that back for next year, please!" Hulkenberg said jokingly, referring to previous police escorts for the top competitors in the Sunshine State.
