McLaren: 'Crucial that Norris gets the same bond with Ricciardo as with Sainz'

In 2021, the bromance between Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz comes to an end. Sainz goes to Ferrari, and Daniel Ricciardo comes to McLaren. Andrea Stella, racing director of the team, thinks it's crucial to create the same kind of bond between the new driver duo.

Norris and Sainz are good friends off the track, but they are very close on the track. Stella hopes to see the same dynamic between Norris and Ricciardo next year.

"Ricciardo has proven to be one of the best drivers out there," says Stella in conversation with Racer.com. "The most important thing is that they get the same kind of collaboration as Carlos and Lando had. That does require adjustments."

He continues: "Daniel is not Carlos, so their relationship will be different. We have to take that into account. After two years in Formula 1, Lando has shown that he has everything he needs to become a top driver in the sport. We are entering 2021 with an exciting and competitive driver line-up."
