Luke Browning to make FP1 appearance for Williams in Spain and Austria

Browning's FP1 programme will not end in Barcelona, with the Williams junior also set to take part in another practice session ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix. On that occasion, it will be Carlos Sainz who temporarily steps aside to allow the British youngster to get more valuable mileage.

The British Formula 2 driver said he is eager to get his first taste of the FW48 and described the opportunity to take part in two European FP1 sessions as particularly special. Browning revealed he has been working extensively behind the scenes to prepare for the outings and hopes to maximise the track time available while contributing to the team's preparations for upcoming race weekends. He also thanked Williams for the trust and support shown in him and admitted he is excited to finally get out on track.

Giving him his first opportunity to get behind the wheel of the FW48 across two race weekends is an important step in his development and a natural progression. The European leg of the season continues this weekend as Formula 1 arrives in Barcelona for the Spanish Grand Prix, the seventh round of the 2026 campaign. Following another dominant display from Kimi Antonelli in Monaco, attention now shifts to whether anyone can stop the championship leader from extending his remarkable run of victories.

Just like Monaco, the Spanish Grand Prix will be held under the traditional race weekend format. Drivers will have three practice sessions to fine-tune their setups before qualifying on Saturday afternoon determines the starting grid for Sunday's race.

The first track action is scheduled for Friday, with Free Practice 1 taking place at 12:30 BST (13:30 CET) and Free Practice 2 at 16:00 BST (17:00 CET). The final practice session will be held on Saturday at 11:30 BST (12:30 CET), ahead of qualifying at 15:00 BST (16:00 CET). The lights then go out for the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday at 14:00 BST (15:00 CET). The full schedule is listed below.
