Leclerc sees Ferrari grow again: 'That was hard to accept'

Ferrari seems to be on the way back. The Italian team went from a strong 2019 to a dramatic 2020. Outside of a few podium finishes, there was little to celebrate in Maranello. However, with Carlos Sainz, the Italians have a new wind flowing through the factory and it shows in the results.

This season, they are no longer riding disconsolately in midfield but fighting with McLaren for third place in the constructors' championship. Charles Leclerc has experienced the highs and lows with Ferrari and sees that they are heading in the right direction. "Last year was a really difficult season, to accept where we were," Leclerc acknowledges in conversation with Formula1.com.

"I do think the team has done a good job of quickly accepting that we have taken a step back and then working extremely hard." This has allowed Ferrari to take another step towards the top teams. "This year we can see that the team has done a great job by taking steps in the right direction. It shows that all the work that has been put in is now paying off."

"We can also see it on the track. Of course, the road is still long and we would prefer to fight for first place as soon as possible. However, I think we are on the right track now and we are doing well as a team and we need to keep working like that," Leclerc concluded.
